All partner bariatric surgeons are members of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders.
Partner hospitals have dedicated bariatric programs with ICU, dietitian support, and psychological evaluation — not general surgery add-ons.
Laparoscopic sleeve and bypass with Medtronic or Ethicon stapling systems — the same technology used in U.S. MBSAQIP-accredited programs.
All post-operative follow-up at 3 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and annually is coordinated remotely by Sultan GHC with your local physician.

Poorly controlled T2DM — metabolic surgery for diabetes remission
Based on ASMBS / IFSO 2022 guidelines. Final candidacy determined by bariatric surgeon after full evaluation.
All laparoscopic procedures. Surgeon recommendation is based on your BMI, comorbidities, eating behavior, GERD history, and personal goals.
Approximately 80% of the stomach is removed laparoscopically, leaving a narrow gastric sleeve. The pylorus (stomach outlet) is preserved — no intestinal rerouting. Average excess weight loss (EWL): 60–70% at 1 year. Excellent for BMI 35–50. Preferred when simplicity and lower surgical risk are priorities. Most popular bariatric procedure globally.
A small stomach pouch (15–30 mL) is created and connected directly to the mid-jejunum, bypassing 100–150 cm of small intestine. Superior metabolic outcome for type 2 diabetes — remission rate 80–85% at 1 year. Average EWL: 70–80%. Gold standard for GERD with obesity, failed sleeve, and patients with severe metabolic disease.
One-anastomosis gastric bypass — a long narrow gastric tube connected to a loop of jejunum at a single anastomosis. Simpler than RYGB, fewer complications, metabolic outcomes comparable for T2DM. Increasingly popular globally. Available at Apollo, Medanta, and Vikram Hospital bariatric programs. Average EWL: 65–75%.
Sleeve gastrectomy combined with a long-loop duodeno-ileal bypass — the most powerful bariatric-metabolic procedure for super-obesity (BMI 50+) and severe metabolic disease. Produces the greatest EWL (80–90%) and highest T2DM remission rates. Requires careful nutritional monitoring long-term. Available at select high-volume partner centres.
Conversion of sleeve to gastric bypass (for GERD, inadequate weight loss, or weight regain), band removal and conversion to sleeve or bypass, sleeve re-do, and SADI-S conversion. Requires pre-operative upper GI endoscopy and barium study. Performed by high-volume revision bariatric surgeons at Apollo, Fortis, and Medanta.
Incisionless endoscopic procedure that sutures the stomach from inside using an endoscopic suturing device (Apollo OverStitch) — reduces stomach volume by 70% without surgery. For BMI 30–40, or as a bridge to surgery. EWL: 40–50% at 1 year. No incisions, no hospital stay overnight. Available at select Apollo and Fortis endoscopy units.
A silicone balloon filled with saline is placed endoscopically into the stomach for 6 months, reducing appetite and capacity. For BMI 27–40 or pre-operative weight loss before bariatric surgery. EWL: 30–40%. Removed endoscopically at 6 months. Obalon (swallowable) and Orbera (saline-filled) balloons available at partner centers.
U.S. figures from ASMBS (American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, 2024) and FAIR Health. India and Türkiye from IFSO partner center rates (2025). All-inclusive: surgeon, anaesthesia, 2–3 night hospital stay, dietitian consultation.

Bariatric Surgery — Commitment to Lifelong Change
Bariatric surgery is a tool, not a cure. Long-term success requires permanent dietary changes, vitamin supplementation, regular follow-up, and lifestyle modification. Sultan GHC coordinates pre-operative psychological and nutritional assessment at all partner centers. Remote dietitian follow-up is arranged for 12 months post-surgery through Sultan GHC's post-care coordination program. All patients receive a full medical summary, discharge instructions, and a direct line to their surgical team before departing.
Tell us your BMI, current weight, and health conditions. Our bariatric coordinator will assess your candidacy, recommend the right procedure, and provide a detailed cost estimate — free of charge, no commitment required.
GERD, Barrett's esophagus, and upper GI conditions associated with obesity
NAFLD / NASH — fatty liver disease commonly associated with obesity
Cardiac risk assessment and pre-operative clearance for bariatric patients

Sleeve gastrectomy in the U.S.: $15,000–$35,000. India: $4,000–$7,000 — saving 75–85%. Same laparoscopic technique, Medtronic or Ethicon stapling, and post-op dietitian care as U.S. programs.
Gastric bypass (RYGB) in the U.S.: $20,000–$45,000. India: $5,000–$9,000. Mini gastric bypass (MGB/OAGB): $4,500–$7,500 India. Both procedures at Apollo, Fortis, and Medanta bariatric programs.
Standard criteria: BMI 40+ (any comorbidities) or BMI 35–39.9 with at least one obesity-related comorbidity (T2DM, hypertension, sleep apnea). Some programs accept BMI 30–34.9 with poorly controlled T2DM. Sultan GHC provides a free pre-screening questionnaire to assess candidacy.
Sultan GHC partners with IFSO-member surgeons only. Partner centers perform 10,000+ bariatric procedures annually with complication rates comparable to published U.S. MBSAQIP data. All centers have ICU, bariatric dietitians, and psychological evaluation protocols.
Sleeve removes 80% of stomach, no intestinal rerouting — simpler, excellent for most patients (60–70% EWL). Gastric bypass reroutes intestine — greater metabolic benefit for T2DM (80–85% remission), better long-term EWL (70–80%), but more complex. Sultan GHC surgeons recommend the right procedure per individual profile.
10–14 days total: 1–2 days pre-op workup, surgery day, 2–3 nights in hospital, 5–7 days recovery. All follow-up (3-week, 3-month, 6-month, annual) managed remotely with Sultan GHC coordination.
Yes. Sleeve-to-bypass conversion, band removal to sleeve or bypass, SADI-S conversion — all available at Apollo, Fortis, and Medanta. Revision bariatric cost: $5,500–$10,000 India vs $15,000–$50,000 U.S.
